on a more cheerful note...

that's what i call a fun movie.

all you need is love

i'm a hopeless idealistic romantic, but people keep getting in the way of that.

sam worthington action superstar

my question is why? no, really, WHY? and now he's supposed  to star in some Dracula remake? like, duh... i'd like to point out that, since we're in the "no skillz to act" territory, they might as well picked His Royal Hotness. at least we'll have something pretty to look at, unlike sam w. here, who most definitely is not even remotely pretty.
also, i watched yesterday morning some behind the scenes footage annd interviews from Lord of the Rings. Orlando Bloom is really cute. i just wanted to take him home. and he broke a rib but bravely carried on being elfy. awww!! because us, skinny delicate people, are resilient. and he's got a sense of humor.
later edit: okay, soooooooo... who looks more like sexy count dracula the impaler here? whose face screams brooding romance anti-hero?

wednesday morning

luckily, the temperatures are up slightly (-3C!!! that's 10 degrees warmer than yesterday morning!) which means i will dress lighter today. lighter meaning without the extra sweater and possibly without the leggings. i'm traumatized by the cold, in all truth. if us humans were made to live at this sort of temperature mother nature would have put shaggy fur all over our bodies. instead we have to deal with what we have. of course, fur is the best option. natural or fake, whatever, just make it fur. fur on top, wool and cotton underneath. also, corduroy.
so, the best fashion options for this ungodly weather are:
thick, wool knitted pantyhose (i wonder if i can call it pantyhose. it's more like skinny pants with socks attached)
leggings on top of that
wool socks (preferably knee-high)
long black corduroy skirt. with underskirt. (y'all, this sort of skirt is approx 10 times warmer than a pair of pants - especially jeans! and you can move much easier. i don't understand the vast majority of women who say the opposite. wearing a thick long ample skirt with underskirt is like wrapping a warm comfortable blanket around your entire lower part. whereas putting pants on = deep freeze. not to mention that there's only so many layers you can put under pants, while under this sort of skirt you can even add that extra pair of pajama pants. whoever laughs at this idea, obviously is sort of suicidal)
sweaters, obviously
flat boots. because i have to walk on snow, ice and must be stable
my tunisian pashmina. great for head and face covering or wrapping around the body
last but definitely not least, the long fur coat. the only thing it lacks is the hood, but let's not be picky. note> fur must be on the inside.

2010 will be better (this is purely hypothetical and honestly, just wishful thinking)

... i'm going to get paid decently for my job and ON TIME.
... i will go on a romantic picnic by the sea in may with a very significant other
.... if i'm lucky i'll be back doing news about big international mofos instead of lame national mofos. also, news about movies and stuff. if i'm really lucky i will do another show about movies.

.... i still did not forget about my weekend on the amalfi coast. i so deserve it.
... there will be alice in wonderland
... again, i am GOING TO GET PAID DECENTLY AND ON TIME
....I AM GOING TO GET PAID DECENTLY AND ON TIME
... I AM GOING TO GET PAID DECENTLY AND ON TIME (this is the official mantra of the year, after 2009 which hated me so badly).
... to be continued

even more cold, if that's possible

thermometer stuck at -15C and windy  (translation: freezing hell, honestly, how is it possible to be so cold? at this rate, penguin colonies will start migrating here). also, weather people of doom say the next night will be just as cold buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut ... the day after tomorrow it's going to be warmer. is roland emmerich doing a sequel here?  we're going to approach freezing point!!! whee!! zero degrees!!! i'm loosing my mind in here!
honestly i want to dig a hole deep enough and spend the winter there hibernating near the toasty warm earth core. mmmm.... lava.

we're all going to die freezing at this rate

honestly, it's SO COLD, i have no words for this. there are like -12C outside and strong wind which means you actually feel those -12 like -20 or less. fabulous. and of course it's also v cold inside and i can't wait to get home. promise to self - won't get out of the house till monday, when i have to go to work, unless absolutely necessary. WHERE IS THE GLOBAL WARMING WHEN YOU NEED IT? if i hear anyone again about how wonderful winter is, i'm going to shove him/her out in her underwear (how do you like winter now, huh??). because i am an evil freezing person.
in conclusion: winter is ugly and hates me.

note to self

valhalla rising. also, mads looks a little like viggo. if i have a son, i'll name him viggo.
the good news is that the movie about that guy eating soup is out of the oscar race. har har. you know, imdb says it's about a police officer chasing a teenage drug-dealer.WHATEVER. it's just a guy eating soup (loudly!)
i really really feel like watching solomon kane and wolfman now. too bad they're not out yet.

rumors and stuff

...blah, blah, looking from the 14th floor at roland-emmerich doomsday-style-blizzard. pondering how i will get home. rather when i will get home. also pondering the road tomorrow. i.e. getting to work and back. want viggo by my side.
interesting rumor is floating on the internet... tim burton might redo sleeping beauty.

wintery hell reloaded

this time with pictures

it's been snowing since yesterday afternoon. obviously, these are shrubs covered with white cold icky stuff.

snowy landscape. at this rate, by the time i go to work it will be knee deep and i have to walk.

in conclusion - i hate winter.

there is no god

honestly, now, avatar - best movie and best director at the golden globes? OMINOUS. i am afraid to even think about the oscars.
foreign press, i am NOT HAPPY. shame on you.
later edit: the hurt locker is approx. 200.000 times better than avatar. and i'm not even a fan of war movies. but this one is catchy, addictive and, honestly, the characters are very well depicted. you see people who are trying to cope with mayhem, blood and gore in a very human fashion (that is by being bewildered, slightly deranged and suicidal. and sometimes questioning) and you never know who will be next. kathryn, you are my personal hero for making a great movie. you go girl!
unlike you, the ex-husband james cameron should be stripped of all his money and sent to a desert island, maybe he will start making good movies again. sorta like terminator I or II. because i got the feeling everything went downhill from there

the golden globes are tonight

my wish for them - anyone but avatar, please. sure, give them some tech awards but i'm going to hang someone if it gets best movie. because it would not be fair, honestly.
also, some piece of news from yahoo about the globes.

dear summit studios,

when is the eclipse trailer coming out? i'm dying here of curiosity! i've seen some rumors on the internet about trailer at the oscars but the oscars are in march!! you can't do that to me!! i want to see a melodramatic trailer earlier!!
also, about astrology. 2010 will hit me like an angry god with planets transiting mainly my communication houses. this is weird since most people i did astrocharts for (and i did those a lot lately) have these transits on the career houses and stuff. i've got transits on the 11th house of communicating with the world, pluto and mars in the 8th (oh god), sun has progressed in the 7th house of marriage, divorce and other partnerships and, of course, stuff happening in the 6th house of doing services to other people. not to mention the year of the tiger. i'm all like huh. look, tigers are, according to the chinese, enemies of the monkey (me). not happy

oh wow

i nearly finished the list of movies i want to see created in my head a few months ago. of course, i still have to see bright star, nine (i'm a sucker for musicals. any plot is better with people singing in it) the men who stare at goats (the trailer looked cool) and possibly the informant. okay, time for an update:
the hurt locker. this is somewhat outside my range of movies (although i've seen and for some reason liked black hawk dawn) buuuuuuuut... it's directed by a woman. i'm dead curious. tried to ignore it but it made it on my must-see list after much praise from critics (ok, i learned that critics are not to be trusted. yes, i'm looking at people who gave avatar an 82% rating on imdb. you've gotta be kidding me) and again - war movie directed by a woman. this leads me to believe there will be more than ass-kicking blow'em up in the script. in conclusion: the hurt locker.
the girl with a dragon tattoo
there was another movie about a viking who travelled to the holy land and became a templar or stuff, need to remember the name. that specific movie was made by norse so yeah!
the seventh seal. i've seen the scene where the knight plays chess with death and i am hooked to the concept. reminds me of that story of etain and mider.

the road, finally

after several months of pining and anxious waiting, i've got to see it. first thing first: viggo deserves an oscar for his performance. also, he's very heroic, which of course matches my theory with libra actors which are good at playing heroes, especially that type of heroes who sacrifice their lives for another (unlike leo sam worthington). also, they're good at being devious, refined villains (like michael douglas), but let's get back to the road.
it's dark, gritty and heartbreaking. it's about humanity loosing its humanity and abandoning hope in general. then, there's viggo who refuses to give up hope. even when dying on the beach he doesn't abandon his quest. and he's being very convincing at being human, that is, being awesomely heroic and also being paranoid, afraid, mad, and fighting for their survival. guess i loved a lot the fact that there were no definite bad guys. okay, you have cannibals, but then again... this was the world crumbling to pieces and general despair.
one minor detail i am not so sure about was the casting of the child. let me explain. in all american movies kids are terribly precocious and stuff and i don't like that. ok, one might argue that in this situation being mature beyond his years was not such a far-fetched, quite the contrary... yet, as i said, there was something artificial about kodi smith (and he will be playing oskar. i am still so appalled by the remake of "let the right one in". of course it does not stand a chance against the original, what was in you head hollywood!!)
and now i'm off to see "bright star", where keats dies tragically.

later edit: OMFG, rotten tomatoes thinks "avatar" (you know, pocahontas with blue cat-like aliens. the one with the "look at the expensive cgi, viewer, because we have no plot and no characters to speak of. LOOK AT THE EXPENSIVE CGI GODDAMIT!!". the one where the script is basically a long string of cliches ) is better than "the road". i am officially mystified and appalled.
later later edit: a critic dared to compare avatar to lord of the rings. he should be hanged in a public place.

movie

this definitely looks good. i mean, it's a norse thriller and norsemen have a long tradition with gory dark thrillers. it's called "girl with the dragon tattoo" - no offense hollywood, but europeans kick your ass there.

the not-so-pretty of the saturn return

it makes you remember and forces you to sit down and reanalyze all sort of decisions. no, i am not sorry. also, i think pluto approaching at a fast pace my moon is to blame for this. MOAR intense feelings - and previous experience says that feelings usually are the kiss of death. fine, i'm dramatizing, they're not deadly, they just hurt a lot and leave you slightly paranoid. i'm officially a paranoid relationship-junkie and proud of it. i'm a total rebel here. in a world which tells you "you don't need anybody and lust is better than love because love makes you loose your independence" i say that a significant relationship makes you grow. even a less significant relationship makes you grow as a person. and compromising and being willing to meet half-way the other is not a bad thing at all.

stuff i think of on a saturday i am at work

strangely, there is not even a teaser trailer of eclipse so far. that's weird. i mean, honestly, people, it's my guilty pleasure (love-triangle story directed by a libra. please david slade add that pinch of libra darkness to the story, please, please, please, i've been so good!! i just know you have it in you and you'd simply make my day)
i still haven't seen "the road". mainly because i live far from civilization among people who think politicians arguing are more interesting than viggo, which is so unfair. because viggo rocks (he writes poetry! he does stuff for good causes! writes books! paints! can speak foreign languages and has good grammar!) and the politicians... meh. they don't do anything like that except idle chatter in a language similar to that used in "idiocracy" and be totally useless.
the smoking-less-because-it's-ridiculously-expensive agenda is working rather well. am proud of self so far.

walking carefully on thin ice

and sometimes i wish i could just lay across it and wait for either thawing or solid freezing. in the meanwhile, i am trying to give up smoking (at least one good thing to do on a saturn return). so i'm basically not thinking about smoking and convincing my body it doesn't need, smoking is bad and it costs a lot. actually, the last part is quite an incentive so... there. i am focusing on how many pretty things i could buy instead of cigarettes. carrot routine should work.

pluto in the first house

it's been following me around for years now and... sigh. found an interesting article about this particular position and some of it reads true. as in powerful, no, crushing personalities, WHY DID I HAVE TO WITNESS THEIR IDENTITY CRISIS, IT'S SO DRAINING. i'm not talking only about romantic interests here. oh no. the vast majority of my significant relationships - friendships included, involved someone with libra rising and a pretty pluto thrown in the first house which, according to the article gives them some issues with power ... in relationships (i should add) and intensity. from my personal experience this sort of people periodically take you on a roller-coaster emotional ride because, you know, pluto is all about intense emotions and making dramatic changes and also they're sort of abusive and selfish. toss your soul into this emotional black hole and wave bye bye ' cause you ain't seeing it again in its original shape. ever. not even if you have a callous capricorn moon. i do not dare think how a cancer moon would react. plutonians will atom bomb the relationship and test your commitment to the cause like a mob boss. of course, you can't do the same, because that would mean challenging their authority and it would bring thermonuclear war.

avatar and other things

avatar generated a whole lot of hype this year. several people said "omg, you definitely absolutely gotta see avatar!!" so... i saw avatar. and i was so not impressed. it's basically pocahontas with blue aliens and it was exactly as i thought it would be from the moment i saw the campaign and the trailer. it's all about "look at this expensive cgi! NO REALLY, LOOK AT THE EXPENSIVE CGI!". i mean, as far as the story goes, the whole "we're out to get the aliens" concept looked far better in district 9, the characters were more interesting in district 9 and the lavish cgi looked better in 300 or lord of rings. but this is hollywood and meh.
then i saw little ashes. which is interesting at least as far as the story is concerned. it has garcia lorca, salvador dali (rpattz is playing dali) and bunuel being artsy and rebellious in 1920's - 1930's spain. for that alone it deserves a prize in my mind... i'll take spanish artists over blue aliens or robots any day! because i am that kind of girl. the romance between dali and lorca was nicely acted and the two had a lot of chemistry (now i'm going against all the critics who said "blah blah blah.. wooden acting blah". people, the acting in avatar was petrifying. actually, it was not even existing. yes, i have a problem with that movie). i think that leonardo di caprio would have done a great job at being the demented/vulnerable dali if this movie would have been shot back in the day before titanic. and again, because we live in the age of avatar/transformers/sex and the city 2, spanish artists in the early 20th century are boring by our standards. what i did not like about "little ashes" though, were the black and white sequences which felt completely out of place.
also, i intend to see sherlock holmes soon.

happy new year

let's be stylish and start with a poem. one of my favourite poems in the world

Verde que te quiero verde.
Verde viento. Verdes ramas.
El barco sobre la mar
y el caballo en la montaña.
Con la sombra en la cintura
ella sueña en su baranda,
verde carne, pelo verde,
con ojos de fría plata.
Verde que te quiero verde.
Bajo la luna gitana,
las cosas la están mirando
y ella no puede mirarlas.
Verde que te quiero verde.
Grandes estrellas de escarcha
vienen con el pez de sombra
que abre el camino del alba.
La higuera frota su viento
con la lija de sus ramas,
y el monte, gato garduño,
eriza sus pitas agrias.
¿Pero quién vendra? ¿Y por dónde...?
Ella sigue en su baranda,
Verde came, pelo verde,
soñando en la mar amarga.
--Compadre, quiero cambiar
mi caballo por su casa,
mi montura por su espejo,
mi cuchillo per su manta.
Compadre, vengo sangrando,
desde los puertos de Cabra.
--Si yo pudiera, mocito,
este trato se cerraba.
Pero yo ya no soy yo,
ni mi casa es ya mi casa.
--Compadre, quiero morir
decentemente en mi cama.
De acero, si puede ser,
con las sábanas de holanda.
¿No ves la herida que tengo
desde el pecho a la garganta?
--Trescientas rosas morenas
lleva tu pechera blanca.
Tu sangre rezuma y huele
alrededor de tu faja.
Pero yo ya no soy yo,
ni mi casa es ya mi casa.
--Dejadme subir al menos
hasta las altas barandas;
¡dejadme subir!, dejadme,
hasta las verdes barandas.
Barandales de la luna
por donde retumba el agua.
Ya suben los dos compadres
hacia las altas barandas.
Dejando un rastro de sangre.
Dejando un rastro de lágrimas.
Temblaban en los tejados
farolillos de hojalata.
Mil panderos de cristal
herían la madrugada.
Verde que te quiero verde,
verde viento, verdes ramas.
Los dos compadres subieron.
El largo viento dejaba
en la boca un raro gusto
de hiel, de menta y de albahaca.
¡Compadre! ¿Donde está, díme?
¿Donde está tu niña amarga?
¡Cuántas veces te esperó!
¡Cuántas veces te esperara,
cara fresca, negro pelo,
en esta verde baranda!
Sobre el rostro del aljibe
se mecía la gitana.
Verde carne, pelo verde,
con ojos de fría plata.
Un carámbano de luna
la sostiene sobre el agua.
La noche se puso íntima
como una pequeña plaza.
Guardias civiles borrachos
en la puerta golpeaban.
Verde que te qinero verde.
Verde viento. Verdes ramas.
El barco sobre la mar.
Y el caballo en la montaña.
